Since 2009, I've worked as a science writer and postdoctoral fellow advocate. My work includes neuronal microbiology research; writing peer-reviewed publications and preparing them for submission to high impact journals; writing academic complaints and appeals; using social media to inform the general public about neuroscience and science generally, as well as public policy and health; and negotiating, communicating, and advocating with faculty, staff, and administrative and professional personnel at The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas System, the National Postdoctoral Association, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights, the Texas State Employees Union, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. I am a former member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and I volunteer regularly with the National Postdoctoral Association, providing advice and updates on federal policy changes affecting postdoctoral scholars.
